Early Mornin' Breakfast

With our time in Germany winding down, we're been trying to squeeze a few things in as much as possible. We've come to adore the German breakfast and Ben, being the amazing man he is, has treated us a few times!!

One of the wild woman's favorite things is German bread. When we go for breakfast, usually super early- she gets to pick whatever kind she wants. It's the same every time, a butter cousant with chocolate drizzle and a little bit of nutella in the middle. She also eats the middles out of our bread and dips it in the fresh cheese.

We were so hungry I forgot to snap some pictures of our breakfast but we'll be back this week for sure so I'll grab some them!

We have a bakery close to our house but this one, a few villages over it much nicer!

Transposition of Great Vessels

On Thursday we went back to the doctor for my 22wk checkup and for an echo for baby #2. It was about an hour long and it was so amazing to see how much baby has changed in just 2wks! It was incredible! We finished up and our Dr came in to talk to us.

It's never a good sign when the doctor says, did she tell you what she found? I was like, um no...? Here because baby was a wild child not lifting his/her head and keeping the arm across the chest, they couldn't get a real good view of the crossing of the aorta and pulmonary arteries. Well, this time, baby was a little sleepy and praise God, had the chin lifted just so that they could get some amazing pictures of the baby's "plumbing" of the heart.

Instead of Tetralogy of Fallot, our baby has Transposition of Great Vessels with a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). Praise, praise God that they found this. It's a little more serious diagnosis that before. The best way to describe it is the plumbing that's coming out of the baby's heart is backwards and doing the wrong job. Also, if baby was holding out okay- we may have been able to hold and keep baby for awhile with the previous diagnosis and maybe ever taken baby home then come back for the surgery. The new one, Transposition, once the cord is cut, the baby will be taken to the NICU to await open heart surgery.

I didn't do so well with the news. It was almost like I needed to grieve again, if that makes sense. I was in a good spot of understanding Tetralogy and felt like I had a little bit of a grip on it and then it all changed. I was really stressed and what was worse was that my wild woman picked right up on it. The following two nights she woke up crying for me and even when I went in to sleep with her, she would wake up cry for me and say "hold Momma, hold Momma". I cried even more then :(. She's doing much better and I am too. God is so good and I'm so thankful he remembers I'm a sinful human with alot to learn.

So many things have changed, been up in the air, and happend in the last few days. I will hopefully be flying out this weekend and will have my first appointment next week. At first they weren't going to put Ben on the orders and just allow him enough time to take us there and then come back to work until our PCS orders come in. It was awful. Another praise that God worked it out. A few other things transpired and I'll share those later.

We ask for your continued prayers and will keep you updated! Love you all so very much!

Here's some info on the Transposition of Great Vessels :
From www.childrenshospital.org:
With these arteries reversed, oxygen-poor (blue) blood returns to the right atrium from the body, passes into the right ventricle, then goes into the aorta and back to the body. And oxygen-rich (red) blood returns to the left atrium from the lungs and passes into the left ventricle, which pumps it back to the lungs—the opposite of the way blood normally circulates. The oxygen-poor (blue) blood cannot meet the body’s demands, and this situation cannot support life.

Preliminary Amnio Results

Last week we called about the preliminary amnio results, the results for the Trisomy Syndromes where negative. We'll get the final, official results in about a week. Ben and I were thankful for the good report however- it was a result that wouldn't make a difference to Ben or I either way, positive or negative. This baby is a child of God and we are so blessed to be welcoming this baby into our family. We are sooo very excited and can't wait to meet this little one. Thank you all again for you thoughts and prayers. Even though this time for our family is so crazy with everything being up in the air. we're really seeing God's blessings through it all.

We've been asking Audrey if there is a baby boy or baby girl in Momma's belly. She gets this stink-eye look and tells us- "Just a baby Momma/Daddy" haha At least we've moved on from a kitty to a baby, we'll take it! haha

Finally some SNOW!

We've been waiting an awful long time for snow! It came last night and my goodness- were we excited this morning!!!! I was allowed off my restricted movement to go to Audrey's check-up and to get some pictures of the wild woman "playing in da NO" :)

Her ears are all healed from the bilateral ear infection/rupture. She loves to get her ears cleaned and checked... I don't know? haha She sat up there like such a big girl, we're so proud of her. We also mentioned to her pediatrician about finding out about my heart and new little one's heart and asked if he could take a listen. I've listened to her heart  before and she's never had any issues but just for that extra reassurance we asked. God bless him, he listened for a long time, all over her heart and said it sounded beautiful! Audrey was all about it.

Anyways, here's some snowy pictures. And yes, we got all geared up to go play in an inch of snow :)

And some days are just not going to go well...

During the next few months, we know that we're going to have some rough days. It's just what you allow those days to because that matter.

Like yesterday afternoon... Poor Beretta has something going on with her eye. At first it looked like a cataract, but we both thought she was a little young for that. She just turned 4 in December. It started spreading and her eye got bloodshot and the white line started to get bigger. We took her in and let me tell you, it sure helps having a K-9 handler as a husband! haha The vet and tech didn't recognize him at first without Jimmy and no uniform but, it didn't take long to click. They're great there and we're very thankful to have them taking care of Retta. The vet's office is another favorite place of Audreys'. Ben first took her and then let her listen to her heart, find her microchip (that started a favorite play activity for the wild woman, finding "chips in all of her stuffed animals...and Baby Jesus from her Nativity) give treats, you know- letting her think she was running the show :) haha Because the white area is around her cornea, it wasn't cataracts. She thought it was lipid deposits from an infection and gave us a prescription for antibiotic eye drops we had to get from the German pharmacy.

We did the eye drops and it still did clear up. Ben and Aud took her back in after my amnio on Wednesday. The vet said it could be a number of things but wanted to talk to another vet friend who was deployed and would get back to us later on. Yesterday they called back and asked if we could bring Retta back in for some blood work to rule out Cushing's and Diabetes... I know. So a nice large vet bill later and a mess of blood work done- we'll find out next week. Other than Retta's eye looking really cloudy, she's doing great. She's eating really well, playing, and nothing has changed. Something positive came from multiple trips to the vets haha I'm going to take some space to tell you. haha It was so funny.

Ben had the wild woman with him when the vet needed to get a good look at Retta's eye and do a few things to it. I told you before, Aud loves the vet's office and is just fascinated with everything that goes on there. So imagine this, Audrey, Ben, Beretta, and the Vet are in the office- all on the floor trying to get Retta pinned down so they could look in her eye. This is where Ben being a handler and wrestling Beretta all the time, come in handy again. Ben and the Vet get her in situated with Ben cradling her head and holding down her body on the floor of the office. They are both forehead to forehead keeping Beretta still and calm while checking her out. Enter Audrey. Ben said he could see her out of the corner of his eye slowly, very slowly making her way to see what was going on. Oh and Ben was acting this out while telling me this, part of the reason it was soo funny. He knew I needed a great laugh. Okay, back to the story. Here comes Aud, never taking her eye's off of Retta-roo-zaa (what she calls Beretta) and Ben knowing she was coming to "help". She got over to where Ben and the vet are forehead to forehead, cheek to cheek and puts her head on their's, so she could look too. haha I would have LOVED to been there, just to get a picture of all three of them huddled around our 80lb dog on the floor with all their heads touching. Ben said she stayed like that till the vet was done. Praise God the vet was all about it and told the wild woman what she was doing and what she was looking for-further involving Audrey :)

Next she had to put some dye, measure her tearing, and shine her light in Retta's eye. They got back on the floor, assumed the same position, only this time the vet had her ophthalmoscope in her hand with her forehead almost touching Ben's cheek as he as laying almost across Retta. Here comes Audrey again! She makes her way to the vet, Ben said she never took her eyes off of Retta! haha She was cheek to cheek with the vet and Ben was able to watch her this time a little better. He said she was soo glued on what was going on it was hilarious! He was watching her and he said after a few seconds he saw her hand slowly rise up underneath the vets, to hold on to the scope as well. haha He said, Audrey- we don't touch that, and her hand would slowly lower. Few seconds later, that little hannie would rise up again.. Ben-"Audrey, we don't touch that"... hannie lowering...coming back up..."Audrey, we don't touch that"... back down... and back up again. haha The whole time. He said it was like she couldn't control it and she never took her eyes off Retta. hahah I wish Ben would let me video him telling this story, complete with him acting it out, but those of you knowing Ben know that won't happen :)

Ben brought Aud home yesterday before taking Retta for blood work and she was just having a hard time. She wanted me to hold her and I couldn't, upsetting her even more. We tried to all lay down together but she was over tired, mouth hurting, and fighting sleep. I left and let Ben put her down. She get so upset, started jumping up and down in her crib screaming, and bit down on her lip. Bloody mess and one sore tongue later she feel asleep. When she woke up, Ben took her back to base to turn in our paper work for leaving and medical things only to find the whole clinic was off that day and was closed. Not to mention he got a flat tire. Took the car to the garage, Audrey was scared out of her mind from the noise and the guy Ben was taking to. So much that Ben had to ask the guy to drive the car into the bay because Audrey wouldn't let him go or get in her seat. They get the tire off, and because the hole was in a certain spot- it couldn't be patched. They went to grab the spare and it's a total different tire than the ones on the car. Different rim size and everything. Needless to say, it was a very expensive day yesterday. Thank God we have two cars and it's only one tire we have to buy.

They came home and the wild woman snuggled up to me on the bed and told me "Mommy, I screamin'" I hate, hate, hate knowing a child is scared. Even more so when it's my baby. God love her, she started telling me about her crying and when Ben was giving me all the details, you could see her start to relive it. Poor baby. We talked about it and prayed with her and moved on to something else.

So by the length and consistency, you can tell I'm on bed rest and hope to be back to something this week- if Audrey and Ben allow me. They both can be very big momma hens. If you don't see any posts for a few days, don't be concerned. I'll make sure to put updates up if they happen. Thank you again for all your thoughts and prayers. Love you all!
